I have fringed rugs on terrazzo floors.
Roomba and area rugs.
My roomba 960 choked and wrestled with the fringes the first time out.
One of the reasons would be that the robots don t have the suction power to take on thick carpets.
The same goes for shoes wires and cords area rugs and oddly designed chairs.
High pile area rugs e g.
If the edges of the rug are just high enough the roomba will tend to curl up the rug neither going over or under it.
Looking to get a roomba to obviously help with passive cleanliness and the problem i have a pretty good sized apartment with an area rug.
In desperation before it ruined the fringes i took a brush and straightened the tasssles of the fringe and took my roll of 2 inch wide packing tape.
They would stop at the edge of the black and change direction as if they detected a step or ledge.
Few robots can cross rugs that are woven from long fibers or even ones that have tassels without.
If it is a mat then the roomba may end up pushing the mat all over the place.
If you own a roomba that really struggles with rug cleaning it s best to just avoid thick rugs and carpets altogether because it may only overwork the motor and the battery.
Like we said when we started the rugs like this cannot be used on thick carpets for obvious reasons.
Shag rugs with corners that curl up may cause the roomba to get caught.
At least that s the theory.
Plush area rugs can be comfortable to walk on but they often act as a traps for a robot vacuum.
And i have to say right now a brainy cleaning robot sure sounds tempting.
I have two roomba discoveries and niether one of them would roll over black color lines in any of my area rugs.
Roomba 600 series robot vacuums have two counter rotating brush rolls mounted in a suspension system a design that makes the bot a more effective cleaner on thicker rugs.
The roomba robot vacuum has voice recognition and an app you can control it with making the experience a lot better.
If the rug mat creates too much friction the roomba s rear rubber sweeper will get stuck and human intervention will be required.
I contacted irobot customer support.
This was definitely something it was not designed to overcome or deal with properly.
