Rust under vinyl top.
I have a 68 eldo that had rust under the top at the bottom corners of the rear window.
But there are seveal areas that is rusted clean through to.
I went in the car and started pressing on the headliner and it felt fairly solid for the most part.
Im assuming that if there is bubble in the top go with the idea of rust or if the top is spongy in places.

Water settles in the window channel and seeps under the vinyl causing the rust.
This isnt a big deal as i dont like the top anyway.
What has me worried is it is vinyl top car.
Every and i mean every car with a vinyl top needs to have the rust repaired.
The channel the glass rests in rusts too letting water in the trunk.

But when i push on the top of the roof i hear crunchy rust all over the place.
Those bumps and crunchy noise mean you have serious rust.
The top is ripped in the photos and will have to come off.
Just did my 67 camaro top last week it was bubbling under top figued i should get it before it poked through to paint below the chrome trim got it just in time taped off good paint below chrome line sand blasted and welded spotss that needed attention took rear glass out reglue top down on sail panels put chrome trim back on.
It is easier to replace the vinyl top then you can kill the rust and paint the top with por15 and cover the whole mess with new vinyl.
Removing a vinyl top for keeps is one of the hardest things you can do in bodywork because of the rust and glue underneath.
